The September week is the week of the rut and
bull moose respond very well to calling. The second week of the season is the second week of October and the rut has ended so calling is not as effective, so more time may be spent on the move and glassing swamps and clear cuts.
Most of them are large tracts of woodland with remote logging roads throughout. Our
moose hunting days are typically long ones as we hunt from first light to last light. We spend a great deal of time calling in the best areas and also ride the vast system of roads that run through each zone, looking for new sign and calling at good places. Many times we can find a
moose very near the road early in the morning. It is very exciting to see a half ton
trophy bull moose with his massive set of antlers coming through the woods answering your call. Bulls range from 700-1000 lbs dressed and may have an antler spread of 48-60
inches or more.
Maine’s annual moose hunt began in
1980 and has been very successful every year since.
There are currently 18 hunting zones that Moose are
hunted in. We hunt zones 3,5,6,10,11,18 and 19. Lodging
will vary according to the zone we are hunting in. It
could be a cabin, a motel, a camper or possible a tent
(with heater).
